(Kingston, Jamaica ; October 25, 2020) : The National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) wishes to advise that due to inclement weather conditions, residents will see further delays in their garbage  and recycling collection islandwide in the coming week.

Executive Director of the NSWMA, Mr. Audley Gordon, says the prevailing weather conditions have caused challenging conditions at its disposal facilities across the island, resulting in increased vehicle turnaround times.  “Over the past few weeks, the weather has caused severe setback in our operations. As it intensifies, we can foresee further delays over the next few days.  The heavy rains have resulted in damaged roadways, landslides, and soil erosion. While we seek to execute our mandate, concerns for the safety of our crews and the protection of the company’s assets are extremely important. Every effort will be taken to ensure prompt collection as soon as the rain subsides, and we crave the patience and understanding of citizens at this time. To further reduce delays, householders are being encouraged to properly bag and secure their garbage as we go through this challenging period.”

The NSWMA continues to work closely with the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) and all stakeholders to ensure we have accurate and up-to-date information to share with citizens and workers to keep them safe.
